Being able to measure the path does not mean subtraction will do. The path drifts, and when both parties speak the estimate breaks down. This volume implements adaptive identification by normalised least mean squares and quantifies the relation between step size, convergence rate and misadjustment. It reproduces the divergence that follows from omitting double-talk detection, then builds the correlation-based detector and freeze, the nonlinear processor for residual echo and the comfort noise that fills the gap.
